collecting

From Lisa Congdon's A Collection a Day
As an avid collector myself - with multiple plastic flat files of ephemera and manila envelopes of everything from sugar packets to pressed flowers hoarded from various travels abroad - when I saw Lisa Congdon's work, it was love at first sight.

I am sad that I wasn't following her blog during this project, A Collection A Day - it ended in December and featured the following fantastic photos of her equally fantastic and quirky personal collections - and drawings of imagined collections as well.

The book published by UPPERCASE is available for purchase now - as are prints of some of the collections on another favorite site, 20x200.

boden

I have a huge crush on Boden's spring line. Their catalogue arrived while I was out of town and since I've been home I think I've paged through it approximately a dozen times with something on each page circled as a 'want.'

Here are a few items off my wish list.

home sweet home

Image Via This Pretty Space
So after a few weeks of non-stop travel and catching each other in passing, D. and I are both home together for two whole weekends.  Our place is a sad reflection of frenzied lives; half-unpacked suitcases, piles of laundry, piles of mail, empty cupboards and herds of dust bunnies cowering in corners. Although the weather is refusing to cooperate, I have major spring fever, which includes the desire to scour and transform our house into something lovely and light-filled with open windows and curtains billowing in the breeze.... something a little like these lovely spaces.

typographic lyric posters

I'm a pretty big fan of these typographic song posters from Neighborhood Studio - their fledgling site doesn't seem to have much info on the studio itself, but I'm definitely into the gritty industrial look of these posters. Looking forward to what they make next.

I was very surprised to learn this morning that Elizabeth Taylor had passed away.  The last of a generation of golden age movie stars and the first of many 'celebrity' starlets to follow. Her life was often tabloid fodder: husbands, affairs and a penchant for jewelry. I like her best here, young, fresh and undeniably gorgeous.

In her honor - here are a few picks in her style, before goddess gowns and heavy liner. Her original vamp a la Cat on a Hot Tin Roof - pencil dresses, pumps, a slinky slip and, always, diamonds.

help japan

Hope for Japan by Hey JoJo Studios

A week after the earthquake and resulting tsunami, the disaster continues to unfold in Japan. Although much of the television coverage has been dedicated to the ongoing nuclear uncertainty - the real story, and the one that will take years to recover from is the vast population left homeless, the towns destroyed and the families ripped apart. In addition to donating to charities on the ground like the Red Cross - artists and designers have joined in with pieces that will remind us of the continued need for support in this country long after the television cameras have left.
